Lifetime Achievement Award Red Carpet Gala Charity Fundraiser
ON December 3, 2022, The Martial Maze, Sen-I Judo Club, and the Underground Alliance Martial Science Research Association has the distinct honor of hosting a red carpet, gala event at the Villa Napoletana located on 664 N. Main St. E., Longmeadow, MA. Where the United States Judo Association will be presenting this years Lifetime Achievement Award to Master Noriyasu Kudo of Springfield Massachusetts.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed upon an individual who has contributed extensive leadership, dedication and service to the promotion of the Olympic martial art/sport of Judo. Nominees are selected by not only their work in the promotion of Judo but by their contribution of teaching the principles of Judo that aid in building a stronger and healthier community. Over the years, Master Kudo has taught hundreds of young people how to benefit themselves and their community by living a life based upon courtesy, dedication, discipline and respect. Presenting the award will be Dr. Robert Reilly, Vice President of the USJA and retired Post Doctoral Research Associate, Umass., Visiting Scientist, M.I.T.
Background on Master Noriyasu Kudo’s Martial Arts history.
Master Kudo, or Kudo Sensei as he is known to his students, began his formal training in the Martial Arts at the age of 9 in his home country of Japan. During college at Meiji University, he was chosen as an Uchi Deshi (live in student) of Kitabasashi Sensei,
at the Kodokan, the Headquarters of Judo in Japan. Kudo Sensei assisted teaching Judo and Tai Ho Jitsu and was chosen to teach at the Japan Police Academy as well as instructing the Emperor of Japan's “Royal Palace Secret Service”.
In 1963 and 1964 he became the All Japan Amateur Sumo Champion. Kudo Sensei also became the All Japan (Kokutai) National Judo Champion in both 1965 and 1966.
Kudo Sensei then came to the United States where he continued to train students. He was one of the coaches of the United States Olympic Judo Team twice.
His contributions to the local community include: Coordinator -Department of youth services 1992, Judo instructor Smith College Judo club 1984, Judo instructor East Longmeadow Park recreation 1982, Judo instructor Assumption College Worcester Mass. 1982 to 1986, Taiho Jutsu instructor for the Springfield police from 1986.
